The Stories Behind Dreaming

1. Welcome Zone

Gumbuya Gathering

In the Dreamtime land, beneath the vast sky, The creatures all gathered, to see eye to eye. By the waterhole’s edge, in the shimmering light, They met to determine who held the most might.

2. Land & Animals

Talking Trees

Ancient gums and towering eucalypts call out to the creator spirits, "Our land is crying, said Bunjil, "We must act." Biame thundered, "We must spread the word of regeneration." YawkYawk whispered, "We must all walk softly and only leave footprints."

Cave of Dreams

Deep in the heart of creation, a water creature held sway, Gurangatch, both eel and fish, danced deep underground in his cave.  In the silent depths, where time stands still, the whispers of Gurangatch can be heard, echoing through the ages, a song of creation and resilience, carved in stone and water, forever alive in the heart of the land.

Bogong Moth Story

Myee, bright as wildflowers, a spirit untamed, spotted a distant mountain, icy-crowned, drawn like moth to flame. Higher she climbed, into clouds darkening, cold, snow enveloped her, a tale yet untold. Months passed, spring thawed, released from snow's hold, Myee emerged, wings fluttered, a story to unfold. Her once vibrant hues, soaked by the snow, Left her body brown, a change, although slow. Myee's spirit soared, in the sky so blue, A tale of transformation, from old to new. Her journey, a lesson, of beauty unseen.

Dream Forest

In the land where earth meets sky so high, Lived Wirri, kangaroo with spirit to fly. Boundless energy, his heart did beat, In search of adventure, his restless feet.Amidst the heat of summer's sway, He found a waterhole, hidden away. Its shimmering surface, a mesmerising sight, Beneath the sun's relentless light. With cautious steps, Wirri drew near, Whispers of spirits, he could hear. Sacred place, where land and water entwine, A moment suspended, in nature divine.

Now you can make your way through our serene event gardens, where you can marvel at amazing indigenous artworks by Warlukurlangu - Artists of Yuendumu. Be sure to stop by our photo experience booth to capture your Gumbuya Dreaming memories forever.

3. Fire & Water

Billabong

At the billabong's edge, stood Tiddalick the Frog, his belly a wedge. He'd swallowed the waters, every last drop, leaving the other animals with nary a plop. They tried to make him laugh so they could take a bath, giggling and jiggaling his tummy gushed, filling the billabong, oh so lush. And in that moment, the animals understood, the importance of laughter in the heart of the bush.

Hairyman

In shadows deep, where moonlight fades, The Hairyman roams through the long grass blades. Coarse fur cloak, eyes like polished stone, A solitary figure, in the bush he's known. His presence felt, but rarely seen, amongst the trees, where secrets appear serene. Whispered warnings, tales of fright, few dare venture into his night.

Fire Dance

Jarrah stumbled upon a gathering of spirits, They danced around a great fire, their bodies flickering with the flames, Singing songs of land and country. Jarjum, come closer," the spirit said, "We have been watching you, And we see the fire of curiosity burning bright within your heart”.

Emu Promises

In the Dreamtime's grace, when stars would gleam, A mighty emu danced its dream. Feathers dawn-hued, horizon's call, In ancient lands, it stood so tall.Across the outback, it would roam, Exploring every dusty home. With wings outspread, it danced the wind, Embracing whispers, spirits pinned. With wave of hand, a gift bestowed, Emu's spirit forever glowed. Etched in heavens, constellation's flight, A timeless tale of wondrous sight.

Get involved in this experience by writing your own promise to the emu and floating it down the river.
